About the CBA
What is the CBA?
The Cowes Business Association (CBA) is a not-for-profit organisation which exists to engage with, support and promote business within Cowes, East Cowes, Northwood and Gurnard and encourage more visitors and Islanders to visit Cowes throughout the year.
Who are the CBA?
The CBA is a membership based organisation for people who own, operate or work for businesses in the local area. Our Committee is elected from the membership and is made up of local people, who voluntarily give up their own time, and have a genuine interest in the continuing success of Cowes and its businesses. We work closely with Cowes Town Council, IOW Council, and several other representative bodies.
"To support, encourage, and promote business in Cowes, thus encouraging more visitors and Islanders to visit our town throughout the year".
How do we operate?
The activities and responsibilities are shared between several sub-committees who report back to the main Committee meeting every month.
Some of these sub-committees and their duties are as follows:
Membership – we encourage membership from all businesses operating within the Cowes, East Cowes, Northwood and Gurnard area, and also allow Associate Membership for individuals who have an interest in the business side of Cowes. Membership subscriptions provide a source of income for CBA activities.
Council Liaison – we work closely with both Cowes Town and IOW Councils on matters such as flooding, rubbish collection, street cleaning etc. Both Councils listen closely to our input.
Public Events – we co-ordinate with all Cowes-based events so that our membership are aware of what is going on, and can make plans accordingly.
Flowers – we are currently looking into the feasibility of having hanging baskets throughout the length of the High Street area.
Flags & Banners – we control all the flags and banners up and down the High Street area, and from this, we derive our main source of income.
Publicity & Promotion – it is vital that Cowes promotes itself on an on-going basis both on the Island and further afield.
Maritime – we co-ordinate with all maritime event organisers to ensure that visiting yachtsmen leave Cowes with a positive story to tell.
