Petition : Reduce parking restrictions in Cowes to save the town centre

Published 11:07 on 24 Dec 2018

You may be aware that the IWCC have decided to revoke all Business Parking Permits throughout the Island.

Are you aware that parking charges will also be increased?

Are you aware that short term free parking in town centres islandwide will be removed?

Are you aware that there will be extended parking charges introduced - up to 20.00 hours (18.00 hours at present)?

These plans appear to be designed to increase council revenues at the expense of local businesses and residents. They will make it more inconvenient and costly to visit and use the services provided by local and independent shops, restaurants and businesses, driving more business to the out-of-town superstores.

Parking restrictions should be used to prevent unreasonable use of parking space (e.g. commuting), not as a revenue stream for the council.

With this in mind, the Cowes Business Association, along with the other Island Business Associations, are asking them to reconsider their decision.

We need to support our towns and our local businesses. Please sign this petition to show support for this NOT to happen.
